Not sure which package is right for you? We understand! With all of the options available, it can be hard to figure out what you really need. The first thing you need to decide is whether you need a shared hosting plan, or a Virtual Private Server. I once read a great analogy for this, so we'll use it here.

Shared hosting is like having an apartment. You are essentially "renting" space on a server. You do not have full control over the server, but you can do almost anything within your space. A VPS is like having a condo. While you still share a server, you "own" your space, and have full control over it. You can do things like reboot your server without affecting anything else on the server.

Advantages/Disadvantages

Price - Our cheapest shared hosting plan is about $25 less than our cheapest VPS plan. If all you need is a place to host your web site, then A lower end shared hosting plan will probably suit you (and your wallet) just fine. However, if you want all the ammenities of a dedicated server, then a VPS would be a good fit. There is a bit of overlap between a higher end shared plan, and low end VPS plans. And you'll notice that the lowest end of the VPS plans still gives you more resources than the highest shared plan for the same price. Keep reading to learn more reasons why.

Management - On a shared hosting plan, our administrators manage all of the services that make your site work. This leaves you to only worry about your data. On the flip side, you can't change anything that could affect other users on the server. With a VPS you have full control over all services on your server. This means you can customize them however you see fit. While the VPS itself is fully managed, we cannot support every application on it. So you will need to know a bit more about these services in order to make them work.

Security - On shared hosting servers, you have many customers/domains. Each of those running any number of scripts which could be compromised. If one of those compromises could circumvent the security on the server and make it into the OS layer, all sites on the server could be compromised. VPS' are completely isolated from one another on a server. This means that you only have to worry about securing your own site, and not what other people on the server are doing. Of course, this also puts the weight of security on you. Don't let that scare you too much though. We're here to help!

Performance - On shared hosting servers, you could have hundreds of domains, some big, some small. If any one domain starts using lots of resources, every other domain will suffer. With a VPS, you have dedicated resources, so you don't have to worry about other domains using your resources.

Flexibility - On shared hosting servers, you don't have shell access, and you are limited to the applications installed server wide. In addition, you can only host a single domain on each plan. With a VPS, you have full root access, so you can install whatever you want. While you are still limited on resources, there are no limitations on what you can do inside your own VPS. Our VPS packages allow you to host multiple domains with ease.

Resale Want to resell your space on our shared hosting plans? Not gonna happen! We don't allow resellers, because of the security risks (and headaches) it causes to a shared environment. Want to resell on your VPS? Go right ahead! While we won't support your users, we will support the VPS as outlined above.

IP Addresses - On our shared hosting plans, you use a shared IP address, or have to pay for a static IP if you are using SSL. Every VPS plan we offer comes with 2 dedicated IP's, and additional IP's can be purchased anytime, with discounted pricing available.
