We are here to serve you. No sugar coating, no promises that can't be kept, just honest service at an honest price
Our story began like many do, in a college dorm room in the late 90's. Stephanie had been making websites for family as well as herself since 1995. She was soon to graduate, and lose the free hosting she had on the university servers, so we had to figure out somewhere to host things, without paying much as we were both broke! I wasn't even in the tech industry yet at this point, but I had started messing around with Linux, and was running a friends server out of my apartment on my cable modem (it might have been 1Mbps in 1998). So I got the bright idea that I could host everything out of my apartment.
At first, I didn't know enough about Linux, so I loaded up Microsoft IIS on a Windows NT machine we had, and did it the GUI way. My dislike of Windows probably came from this period. It really wasn't pleasant for me, so I built another server and loaded up RedHat (5.1 IIRC), and had a friend help me figure out how to setup Apache, wu-ftpd, Bind, and Sendmail. I had NO IDEA what I was doing! Things would break, and I'd call my friend in the middle of the night in a panic asking how to fix it. He always knew. In time, I did too.
Over the next couple of years, I learned a ton through just doing. I started working for a major Managed hosting provider, doing server monitoring infrastructure, which helped speed up my knowledge of all things internet/web immensely. By late 2000, we had a handful of domains, email, and websites under our management, and more friends and family asking us to help them. So we decided to start selling our services. In April 2001, we registered serve-you.net, and it was off to the races!
As we continue our journey in this 3rd decade of business, we don't know what the future will hold. But we will continue our commitment to providing best in class services. There's lot's of interesting new technologies to explore, and possibly offer. We'll experiment with new things like we always have. Some of them will fail, some will be successful. We're not sitting back running the same old hardware and software, we are always looking forward. We continue to upgrade our service offerings, to make sure that our users always get what they're paying for.
Over the past 20 something years, a lot has changed. We've grown in size, then contracted, then grown again. I made the decision early on, that the goal of serve-you.net was never to be the biggest, most successful hosting company. Our goal, was to always provide the best services at affordable prices, and to treat our users like family. We've stuck to that, throughout the many changes that have happened over the years. We know that there are a lot of choices out there, and many of them are cheaper than us, and by much bigger companies. We also know that they can never provide the personalized level of service that we can. So we hope you'll come join us, and see how we can serve you!
